Low Tide, Late June — the Sussex coast, kept.

There is a particular hour on the Sussex coast, late in June, when the tide has gone out and taken the day with it. The light goes long and the air changes — salt first, then something greener underneath, then the warmth coming off the sand as it gives the day's heat back. It is not a dramatic smell. It is a quiet one, and it is over almost as soon as you notice it.

Low Tide, Late June is our attempt to keep that hour. Coastal bergamot does the work of the light — bright, slightly bitter, clean. Salted air sits underneath it, the mineral note you get standing at the water's edge rather than anything marine or synthetic. And immortelle — the golden flower that grows in dry, coastal ground — brings the warmth at the end, the part of the evening you'd keep if you could.

We make it in East Sussex, in small batches, because that is where the hour belongs. The fragrance is available as a candle — hand-poured in a natural, vegan cocosoy wax — and as incense, for the rooms where a flame would be too much commitment.
