The Journal·No. 01

Every room has a smell.  The question is whether it's the one you chose.

Walk into someone's home and you know, within seconds, something true about how they live. Not from the furniture, not from the art on the walls, but from the air. The way a room smells is the most honest thing about it. It is the one thing that can't be arranged before guests arrive, can't be curated or managed or turned toward the light. The smell of a room is simply what that room is.

Most people have never consciously chosen it. Most people live with the smell their home arrived with — or the smell it developed over years of cooking and cleaning and accumulation — and accept it as a given. As if fragrance were something that happened to a room rather than something you could decide.

It is something you can decide. This is what we're for.
